See the Point Cabrillo Light Station<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Just three miles north of Mendocino Village, you\u2019ll find <a href=\"https:\/\/pointcabrillo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Point Cabrillo Light Station<\/a>. Built in 1909, this charming lighthouse once guided ships safely along the rugged coastline\u2014and today, it\u2019s guiding travelers like us straight to some of the most stunning ocean views in Northern California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\">Tip: Make sure to give yourself a little extra time because it is about a half mile walk to the station. See the Pygmy Forest at Jug Handle State Natural Reserve<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Just off Highway One between Mendocino and Fort Bragg, you\u2019ll find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=441\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Jug Handle State Natural Reserve<\/strong><\/a>. The big draw here is the Pygmy Forest\u2014a patch of teeny-tiny trees that look like they belong in a fairytale. The crazy part is that these miniature trees are actually <em>hundreds<\/em> of years old! The acidic soil has stunted their growth, so you\u2019ll find 500-year-old cypress and pine trees that barely reach your shoulders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a trail that winds right through the forest, giving you the perfect chance to see them up close (and feel like a giant while you do).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-global-color-7-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Hike to the Waterfall at Russian Gulch State Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Just a couple miles north of Mendocino, you\u2019ll find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Russian Gulch State Park<\/strong><\/a>. Besides the dramatic collapsed sea cave (aka Devil\u2019s Punchbowl), the park is home to a gorgeous 36-foot waterfall that\u2019s totally worth the trek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To reach it, you\u2019ll follow a 4.8-mile round-trip trail along Russian Gulch Creek. Ride a Rail Bike Through the Redwoods<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My husband and I had such a blast riding the two-person <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skunktrain.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Railbike<\/strong><\/a> \u2014it\u2019s a completely unique way to experience the famous Redwood Route. Enjoy the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardenbythesea.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens<\/strong><\/a> is 47 acres of lush gardens with ocean views that never get old. The plant variety here is impressive\u2014everything from vibrant dahlias to rare and endangered plants like the yellow <em>Camellia chrysanthoides<\/em>. And the best part? Ride in vintage passenger cars, cabooses, or open-air cars, and take in the scenery at a leisurely pace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seasonal trips, from the Pumpkin Express to <em>Mr. Skunk and the Giant Christmas Tree<\/em>, add a festive twist, making this a Mendocino experience you won\u2019t forget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-global-color-7-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. Eat Fish at Noyo Harbor<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We usually hit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/noyofishcompany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The Noyo Fish Company<\/strong><\/a> first; their fish tacos are absolutely unbeatable, and if you\u2019re in the mood for fried seafood, you won\u2019t be disappointed. Walk Across the Pudding Creek Trestle Bridge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pudding Creek Trestle Bridge in Fort Bragg&nbsp; stretches over half a mile, it offers pretty views of the coast and the creek below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Built in 1915 to haul lumber on the Ten Mile Railroad, the bridge is 527 feet long and 44 feet high\u2014perfect for a slow walk, some photos, or just soaking in the salty sea air. Yes, it\u2019s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drivethrutree.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Chandelier Drive-Thru Tree<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This massive redwood is a must-see\u2014and drive-through\u2014attraction. At over 300 feet tall and 26 feet wide, the tree is big enough to accommodate cars, RVs, and even buses. See the Temple of Kwan Tai<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwantaitemple.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Temple of Kwan Tai<\/a> was built in 1854 by Chinese immigrants who worked in the nearby lumber mills and farms. It&#8217;s actually one of the oldest Chinese temples in California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a quick visit (you can easily pop by in a few minutes), but totally worth it. On and around Main Street and Lansing Street are where you\u2019ll find everything from art galleries and bookstores to chocolatiers, cozy caf\u00e9s, and boutiques that make you want to redecorate your entire house.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A couple of my personal favorites: <a href=\"https:\/\/denmodern.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Den Modern<\/a>, a gorgeous little shop filled with vintage and modern home goods (you\u2019ll want one of everything), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestudyclubmendocino.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Study Club<\/a>, which has a beautifully curated collection of women\u2019s apparel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-global-color-7-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>12. Visit the Ford House Museum<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitmendocino.com\/listing\/open-586\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Ford House Museum<\/strong><\/a> is a beautifully preserved Victorian home built in 1854 by Jerome B. Ford\u2014one of the town\u2019s founding fathers. When you Step inside you will see rooms that are filled with original furnishings from the Ford family, old photographs, and artifacts that tell the story of Mendocino\u2019s early days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll learn about everything from the area\u2019s Indigenous people and the booming logging industry to the town\u2019s early role in the coastal trade. Even if you\u2019re not a total history buff, it\u2019s one of those places that gives you a real sense of what life here used to be like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-global-color-7-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>13. Eat Local<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mendocino may be small, but it\u2019s packed with incredible restaurants, fresh-caught seafood, and local wines. A few of my favorites: <a href=\"http:\/\/trilliummendocino.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Trillium<\/strong><\/a>, where you can\u2019t go wrong with the Wild Gulf Prawns and Scallops or the Crispy Duck Confit. <a href=\"http:\/\/cafebeaujolais.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Cafe Beaujolais<\/strong><\/a>, set inside a charming 1893 Victorian farmhouse, serves up elegant French-inspired dishes like Liberty Farm Duck Breast and Sous Vide Filet Mignon. Hike at Mendocino Headlands Trail at the State Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re up for a short but <em>gorgeous<\/em> walk, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Mendocino Headlands Trail<\/strong><\/a> is a must-do. The whole trail is about five miles long, but we went with the shorter 0.9-mile loop\u2014and honestly, it was incredible! It starts right where Main Street ends and winds along rugged cliffs that\u2019ll make you stop every few steps just to soak in those ocean views (and maybe snap 100 photos).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll get that perfect mix of crashing waves, salty sea air, and a picture-perfect view of Mendocino\u2019s little village. I am typically not a lover of camping. It just seems like the level of work vs. fun doesn\u2019t line up for me. But, this sort of glamping I can totally do!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The property includes 60 spacious safari tents, each outfitted with a king-size bed, bedside lamps with USB ports, heated blankets, and an outdoor deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The communal meadow space has fire pits, hammocks, and picnic tables, plus a steam sauna and espresso bar (yes, glamping with lattes!). My favorite part? From single\/double kayaks to standup paddleboards to mountain bikes, you\u2019ll have plenty of ways to go around Big River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The unique one, however, is on an outrigger canoe, which is a canoe with lateral floats on both sides. This makes it more stable (and virtually impossible to tip!), especially when paddling through rough water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"><a href=\"http:\/\/catchacanoe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Catch-a-canoe<\/strong><\/a> provides kayak, standup paddleboard, and bike rentals in addition to stunning, handcrafted redwood outrigger canoes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-global-color-7-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>18. The cool, foggy climate here is perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and the wineries don\u2019t disappoint.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve had some of my favorite tastings at <a href=\"https:\/\/roedererestate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Roederer Estate<\/strong><\/a>, a California outpost of Champagne Louis Roederer\u2014if you love sparkling wine, their Brut and Brut Ros\u00e9 are absolute must-tries. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pennyroyalfarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Pennyroyal Farms<\/strong><\/a> is another favorite, not just for their wines but also for their cheeses made from their own goats and sheep\u2014sampling the pairings here is pure joy. The brewery offers a variety of different beers, including IPAs, pale ales, and stouts. And the disc golf course is one of the best in the area, with 18 holes that wind through the brewery\u2019s grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-global-color-7-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>22. Kayak the Caves at Van Damme State Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve ever wanted to explore sea caves by kayak, Van Damme State Park is the spot. Launch from the protected bay at Van Damme State Beach with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g32632-d1532311-Reviews-Kayak_Mendocino-Little_River_Mendocino_County_California.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Kayak Mendocino<\/strong><\/a> and spend about 90 minutes gliding through two open tunnels, winding around rocky headlands, and ending at a playful seal colony.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-global-color-7-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>23. See the Point Arena Lighthouse<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you love lighthouses (and who doesn\u2019t?), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pointarenalighthouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Point Arena Lighthouse<\/strong><\/a> is a must-see on the Mendocino coast. At 115 feet, it\u2019s one of the tallest lighthouses in the U.S., and from the views from the top you can see the Pacific Ocean, Manchester Beach, and the rugged coastline of the California Coastal National Monument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lighthouse was first built in 1870, rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake, and still shining bright today. Go Bowling Ball Beach at Schooner Gulch Beach<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want a beach that\u2019s totally unlike any other, you\u2019ve got to check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=446\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Bowling Ball Beach<\/strong><\/a> at Schooner Gulch State Beach. Located about three miles south of Point Arena, the quirky Bowling Ball Beach&nbsp; gets its name from the perfectly round rocks\u2014actually geological formations called concretions\u2014scattered along the sand. They formed over millions of years as the sandstone cliffs eroded, and at low tide, these \u201cbowling balls\u201d really pop out of the shoreline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-global-color-7-background-color has-background\">\u279e Tips: Plan your visit around low tide to see them best, and while you\u2019re there, keep an eye out for tide pools full of little marine critters! It\u2019s no wonder couples love it as a unique, intimate wedding spot.
